Anderson leads Storm to victories

PERU — The Saranac Lake boys cross country team occupied seven of the top 10 spots Tuesday on the way to dual meet victories over Peru and Beekmantown at Macomb State Park.

Madison Grimone was the first finisher in the girls race as the Red Storm girls beat Beekmantown 20-37 and lost to Peru 24-37. The Saranac Lake boys downed Peru 15-48 and Beekmantown 17-46.

Anderson Gray, of Saranac Lake, won the boys race with a time of 15 minutes, 30 seconds. He was followed by teammates Lauchlan Cheney-Seymour, who crossed the line in 15:45, and freshman Micah McCulley in 16:04. James Catania took fifth in 16:15, while Tyler Martin placed sixth in 16:17, Peter Fogarty was eighth in 16:30 and Jacob Alberga took 10th in 17:01.

Grimone covered the course in 18:49 and teammate Evelyn Eller, an eighth-grader, placed third overall in 19:10. Kaylee Amoriell of Peru took second place in 18:56.

Saranac Lake returns to action Saturday at the Section VII Invitational at Cadyville Recreation Park.

GIRLS SOCCER

Saranac 5, Saranac Lake 0

SARANAC — The Saranac Central girls soccer team built a two-goal lead in the first half and added three more in the second to secure a 5-0 victory over Saranac Lake on Tuesday.

The Chiefs outshot Saranac Lake 33-7. Anna Ellithorpe turned away 21 shots in goal for the Red Storm.

Kayla Dandurand paced Saranac with three goals, while Taylor Byerly and Nora Canning each had one.

VOLLEYBALL

Saranac 3, Lake Placid 0

SARANAC — The Lake Placid volleyball team opened the season Tuesday with a 3-0 loss to Saranac Central.

Graci Daby racked up nine assists and Laurel Miller had eight to lead the Blue Bombers.

Maddie Hoeth put down eight kills and Elizabeth Trudeau had 21 assists to pace the Chiefs, who won by socres of 25-17, 25-21 and 25-14.
