SARANAC LAKE — Saranac Lake High School held its annual athletic awards presentation Tuesday night and seniors Ethan Wood and Brittany Shumway led the list as the Red Storm’s varsity athletes of the year.

Shumway competed in four sports — soccer, cross country, ice hockey and track and field — while Wood was a member of the boys soccer, cross country skiing and track team.

Coaches from each team selected the most valuable athletes and red letter award winners for their sports.

Two former Red Storm stars, Brady Pratt and Kelsey Rdzanek, were also inducted to the Saranac Lake High School Athletic Hall of Fame at the presentation. Pratt was a three-sport athlete in football, hockey and baseball and graduated in 2004. He currently works with the United States Customs and Border Protection Service and is based out of El Paso, Texas.

Rdzanek graduated in 2006 and may have been the most talented girls soccer player to have ever worn a Saranac Lake uniform. As a senior in 2005, she led the Red Storm girls to their most successful season ever, as they marched all the way to the state quarterfinal round. Rdzanek, who also competed in softball and track at Saranac Lake, went on to play women’s soccer at the NCAA Division I level at the University of Richmond, and then competed as a professional. She is married to Rob Ferguson and lives in Western New York, where she is the assistant women’s soccer coach at Buffalo State.
