Meadows, Martin headed to state meet

PLATTSBURGH — Saranac Lake senior Jada Meadows completed her perfect run through Section VII competition Saturday with a victory in the 55-meter race at the state qualifier meet at Plattsburgh State.

Meadows qualified for the state meet by winning the race in 7.5 seconds to outrun second place CorrieAnne Stoner of EKMW and Lindsey Gilmore of Plattsburgh. Meadows also took third in Saturday’s 300-meter dash with a time of 48.2, trailing AuSable Valley’s Brinn Peck (44.9) and Plattsburgh’s Sue Sivakumaron (47.1).

“I have known Jada for a long time and going to the state meet was near the top of her bucket list,” Saranac Lake coach Peter Frenette said.

Meadows will be joined by teammate Tyler Martin, who finished second in the 600 on Saturday with a time of 1:32.10, just behind Saranac’s Rory Patterson who won the race in 1:31.7.

“Tyler had his season best time and finish to qualify,” Frenette said. “Both athletes had the state meet as a goal in the beginning of the year. They both worked very  hard all season.”

The state meet will take place March 4 at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Athletic Complex in Staten Island.

Saranac Lake’s Anderson Gray took third in the 3,200 with a time of 10:55. Seton Catholic’s Caleb Moore won the race in 10:32.8 and Matthew Guski was second in 10:49.6. Moore also won the 1,600 with a time of 4:47.3, a race in which Gray finished eighth with a time of 5:51.2.
