Northwood Invitational in full swing

LAKE PLACID – Three days of action kicked off Friday at the Olympic Center in the 37th annual Northwood School Invitational Hockey Tournament.

The host Huskies have five teams participating in the event that features four different conferences.

The Northwood juniors began Ferrier Conference play Friday morning with a convincing 11-1 victory over Bridgton Academy on the ice sheet at the Herb Brooks Arena. Northwood’s prep team is also competing in the same conference and lost its opener 3-2 to Quebec’s John Rennie.

Competing in the Olympic Conference, the Northwood Midget team posted a 2-0 mark on opening day with two close wins, defeating Kuper Academy 3-2 and edging Stanstead College 6-5.

This year’s tournament includes two girls conferences. In the Adirondack Conference, Northwood’s Blue team blanked Wyoming Seminary 2-0 in its first game, while the Huskies White squad suffered two setbacks, falling 3-0 to the Northern Cyclones and dropping a 5-2 decision to the Brewster Bulldogs.

All five Northwood teams will be in action again today as they complete first-round action. Playoff contests will take place on Sunday.
