Readership Reaction to ADE's "New Day Online".

On virtually all of the online forums I participate in, posters understand once a certain threshold has been reached, off-topic postings - filled with personal attacks - offer moderators little choice but to edit, delete or lock the thread. Not one forum has opted to sink the whole ship just because there are a few rats on board. Some posters are offended at the drop of a hat while others are thick-skinned. Being drawn in to off-topic debate is a matter of personal responsibility. A hero is unbalanced and incomplete without a villain. Polar views ultimately create balance. Civil disagreement is healthy.

I find no reason to read The ADE anymore. No comments, no interest!

If the ADE can't effectively run a forum, so be it. If the upset posters' (to include me) can't find a way to get this returned, so be it. Catherine and Peter bit off more than they can chew. So, should the paper get more competent staff? Perhaps, but until then, go join Wilfords column, or wait for Victoria to start her own online site. Until then, those who choose to waste their time (including me) here, suffer....

Have some folk feeling some guilt. LOL, CASE-N-POINT! Follow your readership, if you can comprehend the author(s). Enough said.....for now!

Well, that’s about enough for me. I’ve made every attempt at rejuvenating the “Reader Forums” because the other methods of communication are effectively shut down, but I’m now beginning to see what ADE has had to contend with and it’s not pretty. We’ve devolved into quarreling about vocabulary and once again here comes the name calling from bjccd5. I will miss this Forum, but I’ll get over it. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and each time expecting different results. But each time I log on to ADE it’s the same. Take care, VictoriousEgret, et al and thanks for hanging in there. I won’t be back!

@bjccd5..."A couple folk here think that big words make them superior. Guess what...??? it doesn't!!!! It creates walls that serve no purpose. Speak in terms that all (most) can appreciate, then you begin communication. This isn't the Harvard Journal..."

Oh please. Belly-aching about a poster's vocabulary, in this case using words one may not know the meaning, is absurd.

This certainly isn't the "Harvard Journal..." but it doesn't mean posters using words other posters don't understand the meaning of ought to be mocked or demeaned because of their vocab.

One doesn't understand the meaning of a word? Look it up. Simple as that. No need to belittle the vocab of other posters.

bjccd5, if you're suggesting that I am trying to appear "superior" to you or others by using "big" words, that's just not so. Language is fun. Words are fun. Sometimes a careful selection of a word can make the statement more precise. Your persistent opposition to some of us using a more precise choice of words might be seen as a form of cyber bullying. ADE should post the rules, not you.

While I have disagreed in abundance with many posters', I also have offered my own opinions to a multitude of topics. I appreciate every comment as free speech. If cyber bullying is a problem that the ADE can't deal with, then fine, eliminate the posting. For the most part, I think comments are informative and those who can't handle the criticism's, should stop posting. Like a business, post thoughts that will generate the most readership and understanding. A couple folk here think that big words make them superior. Guess what...??? it doesn't!!!! It creates walls that serve no purpose. Speak in terms that all (most) can appreciate, then you begin communication. This isn't the Harvard Journal...

very PUBLIC information is bizarre. Especially considering he was on a mission not to long ago to inform his readers of the tri-lakes PTB 'conducting' public business while breaking the open meetings laws.

Bizarre.

Ooops!!! I meant to delete the word "theivery"...only it got posted instead.

Seems I have hit a nerve when discussing the public employees of the SLCSD (who by the way are paid by the taxpapers) and their credentials or lack of as the case may be for some. Same goes for their contracts.

It is ALL public knowledge. ALL of it.

Wilford...all one has to do is go the NYSED (New York State Education Dept.) webpage, do a search on ANY instructive persons including 'volunteer' or temporary coaches and all administraors and you will see what they have (or not) for credentialing and the dates given. One is also able to go to "seethroughny" to learn how much money public workers make. Also one is able to read their contracts. One can go the SLCSD (or any school district in NYS) webpage, get the names of the administrators, teachers and support staff and check them out at the NYSED webpage and the seethroughny.

Why Peter Crowley insists on deleting my posts on this ver

VictoriousEgret, I may just be grasping at straws here, but I am of the opinion that when you, me or anyone else goes so far as to actually use someone's name in one of our posts, the ADE must weigh carefully whether the post is slanderous, demeaning or in some manner negatively highlights an individual, group, etc., and unnecessarily exposes the Paper to legal ramifications. I think this is the chief complaint or concern coming from ADE. When I devolve into suggesting someone get out of GlenBeckistan, it doesn't have quite as direct an effect as negative personal remarks.

VictoriousEgret, I don't live in the school district and as a consequence often do not have access to the type of information you are sharing. This is what I had grown to expect from the ADE, you know, providing insight to its readership. Allowing a general colloquoy through the "Comments" section of the Paper seemed such a valuable service.

Since mr. crowley/ catherine moore have made this "their baby", I want to inform you that one day the ADE will be run by people who care about "everyones" comments and not their own liberal ones.....

It’s quite evident the Adirondack Daily Enterprise is actively engaged in solving their perceived dilemma of balancing breakthrough discussion by its informed readership against a growing fringe, whacked discourse from a few detractors. I’m as guilty as a few others here for my off-the-wall reactions to off-the-wall posts from others. The ADE has removed a couple of my posts and I agree with their use of censorship for those posts. Admittedly, they were in poor taste. The “Comment” section provides local interpretation to current events and is popular among the Paper’s clientele who often seek additional insight from fellow posters. I’ve learned a lot from ADE reader/posters. Not being able to comment on articles takes away a huge portion of the enjoyment I had by browsing to the Paper’s website.
