NEW YORK (AP) — A 16-year-old high school football player in New York City is dead after collapsing during practice Monday, officials said.
The teen's father says Miles Kirkland-Thomas collapsed Monday morning during practice for Staten Island's Curtis High School. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Jamar Thomas tells the New York Daily News his 6-foot-2, 320-pound son had passed a physical in July and the family was not aware of any pre-existing conditions.
Thomas says an autopsy will be conducted.
