BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — A 20-year-old Sacred Heart University student has died of injuries after being struck by a car while crossing a street in Bridgeport.

Police identified the student as Kaitlyn Doorhy, a junior from Mattituck, New York. The accident, which occurred at about 12:30 Friday afternon, remains under investigation and no charges have been filed against the driver of the car at this time.

Bridgeport police spokesman William Kaempffer said in a statement that Doorhy was crossing Madison Avenue behind another woman at the time. He said a preliminary investigation found the driver swerved to avoid hitting the other woman and struck Doorhy.
