LAKE PLACID - The Lake Placid Center for the Arts next week will host its Annual Summer Benefit, which is essential in raising funds to keep the Olympic Village's only arts center operating.
The event will be held from 6 to 11 p.m. Thursday, July 31, and will feature a silent auction, live auction with auctioneer David Goodman of Auction Results, music from the new hit rock band Dionysia, and a raffle for two-day passes at Whiteface Mountain Ski Center and a "wheelbarrow full of booze," said LPCA Development Director Macie Huwiler. The benefit is expected to pay for between 5 and 10 percent of the center's annual expenses.
"I can't overemphasize enough the importance of the arts center to the community," Huwiler said, adding that the LPCA serves thousands of people each year, including about 4,000 children. "I really think it adds a huge element to this town."
Ruth Hart and Bob Grant will be given LPCA Spotlight Awards at the event "for all of their amazing work in the early days," Huwiler said.
Live auction items will include a New York Theater Package with a private backstage tour of Radio City Music Hall and a backstage tour of "Mamma Mia!"; a Taste of the Windy City tour for four people to Chicago; a Party on Top of the World with 75 guests atop the Olympic ski jump in Lake Placid; a U.S. Open package for two in New York City; the Ultimate Adirondack Lake Outing for two at the Ausable Club in St. Huberts; an American Music Awards trip for two to Los Angeles; a Chef in Your Home for 8 by chef Richard Brosseau of Freestyle; a Live Like Royalty for 1 Week of Paradise trip to Mexico for eight people; the Instant Wine Cellar package featuring more than 100 bottles of fine wine; and the Tuscany: Vacation in a Renaissance Painting trip to Italy for 12 people.
Tickets are $125 per person through July 28 and $175 per person afterward. Tables of 10 are available. People can join the LPCA for Gala After-Hours at the LPCA featuring the band Dionysia. Cocktails and silent auction will be held from 6 to 7:45 p.m. Dinner and the live auction will begin at 8 p.m. And the Gala After Hours, with an open bar, starts at 9:30 p.m.
The theme for this year's benefit is "The Magic of the Arts," and people are encouraged to wear their "most magical attire."
