To the editor:
On behalf of the youth of our community, the SkatePark Committee would like to thank the team at Dunkin' Donuts for donating the proceeds from their recent customer appreciation day to the skateboard park.
Patrons had the opportunity to meet the new manager, Megan Brown, receive a free gift and raffle ticket, and also pick up a refillable coffee mug for a donation. Outside, the bounce house, face painting and Coffee Cup and Donut mascots created a festive family affair. The event was coordinated by regional Dunkin' Donuts ambassadors Lynn and Bruce St. Pierre. Franchise owner Ray Aley not only promoted the event, but facilitated an $800 regional corporate grant for the SkatePark and made his own generous donation. Additional thanks to Maria DeAngelo for donating her time and talent as face painter, and of course, thanks to all the Dunkin' Donuts customers for their support
Over the last 10 years, 135 skateboarders have participated in fundraisers such as car washes, hot dog sales and music events to raise funds for a skatepark in Saranac Lake. Many local businesses have helped with fundraisers. For their assistance in 2014 events, we would like to acknowledge Coakley's High Peaks Ace Hardware for hosting three hot dog days; the next one is scheduled for Aug. 2. Thanks also to Tri-Lakes Federal Credit Union for allowing use of their lot and water for our car washes.
We eagerly anticipate the state-of-the-art, all-concrete skatepark which will be completed this year. Without any increase in budget, the village of Saranac Lake is dedicated to supporting our youth by adding this recreational facility and contributing some labor and materials for the initial site preparation. Thanks to Village Manager John Sweeney and Department of Public Works Superintendent Jeff Dora for their hard work and expertise in making it happen.
Please follow us on Facebook and our website, www.slskatepark.org, as we push to raise the final funds and begin construction on this long-awaited venue. It's about the kids. What a great community we live in!
