Teresa I. Nichols, 93, of Sugarbush, died Thursday, June 5, 2014 at the Essex Center nursing home in Elizabethtown.
Born July 13, 1920 in Sugarbush, she was the daughter of Royal and Irene (Collins) Tuthill.
Teresa married Clay W. Nichols on Nov. 18, 1944 at St. Rose of Lima Church in Alder Brook with Father O'Donnell officiating. Mr. Nichols died July 7, 1998.
Teresa worked for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Akron, Ohio, and after she and Clay moved back to Sugarbush she worked for Asplin Tree Farms and later was housekeeper for the Prince Camp in Loon Lake for many years, retiring in 1985.
Teresa was an accomplished quilt maker, was a member of the Over 55 Club in Vermontville and also enjoyed her flower gardens, especially the dahlias, picking blueberries and canning.
Teresa is survived by three sons: Roy Nichols (Diane) and Howard Nichols (Lynne), both of Sugarbush, and Donald Nichols (Veronica) of Chateaugay; a daughter, Edith Urban (Eugenia) of Merrillsville; one brother, Francis Tuthill of Bloomingdale; a sister, Ilean Simpson (August) of Bloomingdale; seven grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Clay, her mother and father, and six brothers and sisters: Marie Skiff, Leland, Herman, Bernard and Raymond Tuthill, and Rosella Laundry.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Merrillsville Cemetery in Loon Lake with the Rev. Mark Reilly officiating. Friends wishing to remember Teresa may make contributions to the Tri-Lakes Humane Society or the Bloomingdale Volunteer Fire Department.
