CONIFER - A Conifer man was arrested twice Tuesday after police say he choked his wife during a domestic dispute, then returned to the house later and assaulted his father-in-law.
Scott P. Wilber, 35, was initially arrested after state police were called to he and his wife's home in the town of Piercefield around 10:15 a.m.
Police said the two were involved in a verbal argument, when Wilber threatned his wife, grabbed her by the throat, pushed her against a wall, choked her and held her down. A "refrain from" order, prohibiting Wilber from harassing, threatening or alarming his wife, was in effect at the time. Police said the incident took place in front of two children, ages 3 and 1.
Wilber was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing, second-degree unlawful imprisonment, second-degree criminal contempt, second-degree harassment and acting in a manner injurious to a child. He was arraigned in town of Piercefield court and released under the supervision of St. Lawrence County probation.
Around 10 p.m. that night, police say Wilber went back to the house to talk to his wife. The woman's father was there, and the two men started arguing, police said. At some point, Wilber allegedly pushed his father-in-law to the ground.
The father-in-law suffered abrasions to his head and arm, and pain to his left hip. Rescue personnel responded, but he refused to be transported to the hospital, police said.
Wilber was charged with third-degree assault and second-degree criminal contempt. He was arraigned again in town court and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.
