Salvatore Carrara Jr.

Salvatore Carrara Jr., 83, of 301 Plank Road, Bloomingdale, died on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014 at Adirondack Medical Center.

Born in Brooklyn on Aug. 15, 1930, he was the son of Salvatore and Mary (LeGrand) Carrara. Salvatore married Erika Matthews in 1993 at St. Paul's Church in Bloomingdale with his son, the Rev. Christopher Carrara, officiating. Erika predeceased him in 1999.

Salvatore had been a resident of Bloomingdale for more than 25 years, coming from Long Island. Prior to moving to Bloomingdale he had owned and operated various businesses including a restaurant and lumber yard. After moving to Bloomingdale, he worked with his daughter Carolyn in their computer chip brokerage company, Arista-Tech in California and Bloomingdale. Salvatore is a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953, and was stationed in Germany. He is a past member of the Knights of Columbus and the Saranac Lake Fish and Game Club, with his son Mark was an avid hunter and loved the outdoors. He also enjoyed restoring old cars with his son Christopher. He was a communicant of St. Paul's Church in Bloomingdale where he volunteered as a Eucharistic minister, religious education instructor and had served on the finance council.

He is survived by two sons, Mark Carrara of Potsdam and the Rev. Christopher Carrara of St. Peter's Church, Lowville; one daughter Carolyn Carrara of San Clemente, Calif.; and one grandson Nicholas Carrara of Potsdam.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, one brother Anthony Carrara, and one sister Frances Procida.

Calling hours will take place from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19 at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at noon Monday, Jan. 20 at St. Bernard's Church in Saranac?Lake. Burial will take place in St. Paul's Cemetery in Bloomingdale in the spring.
