Northwood skiers in good company

January 15, 2014
Adirondack Daily Enterprise
Northwood skiers Maris VanSlyke, left, and Jillian Barile, both of Lake Placid, took the top two spots at the Oneida Silversmith Slalom Race in Turin, N.Y. VanSlyke placed first and will have her name added to the silver trophy which is housed at the Snow Ridge Ski Area. Previous Northwood winners of the Oneida Silversmith Slalom include two-time winners Kevin Drury (’07) and Olympic bronze medalist Andrew Weibrecht (’03), who won in 2003 and 2006. Northwood Ski Team members have more names on the trophy than any other club. In other Northwood sports action, the Junior hockey club skated past the Middlebury College junior varsity team with a 6-2 victory. Diego Gagnon and Cam Lee each had two goals, while Robbie Hennessey and Nic Pilote scored one apiece. On the slopes, Taylor Bond placed first at the USASA slopestyle competition at Mount Snow in Vermont, Jake Middleton took third in an alpine race at Hunt Hollow and Dylan Smith placed second at Windham Mountain. The 35th annual Northwood School Invitational hockey tournament will take place Friday through Sunday in Lake Placid.
