SARANAC LAKE - A Rainbow Lake man was charged with driving under the influence and marijuana possession after he was involved in a one-car rollover crash outside the village Sunday night.

Ray Brook-based state police said they were called to state Route 86, near Donnelly's Corners, around 10:15 p.m. after receiving a report of a one-car crash. Troopers found a white 2010 Subaru Legacy 15 feet off the shoulder of the road and flipped over. The driver wasn't there, but police said they could smell the odor of alcohol in the vehicle.

Troopers went to a nearby house where they found the driver of the car, 27-year-old Emmett A. Stiles, being treated by the Saranac Lake Volunteer Rescue Squad. Police said they smelled the odor of alcohol on Stiles' breath. He was transported to Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake for evaluation.

When police returned to the scene of the crash, they allegedly found two bags containing marijuana in the vehicle.

Stiles was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and driving while ability impaired by alcohol. Police had no information this morning on what happened to Stiles after he was charged. He's scheduled to appear in Harrietstown town court at a later date.

The Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department responded to the crash at 10:19 p.m. with seven members and one truck. Firefighters assisted state police and the rescue squad, returning to the station at 11:15 p.m.
