SARANAC LAKE - The Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, the Adirondack Daily Enterprise and the Tourism Council are hosting a community meeting from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16 at the Harrietstown Town Hall.
The community event is based on the highly successful "business speed dating" model. Typically business-after-hours meetings are highly informal, leaving the success of networking to each individual participant.
"Business speed dating turns it up a notch," said Katy VanAnden, executive director of the Saranac Lake Area Chamber. "The goal is to quickly interact with all of the businesses present in a fun and coordinated way."
"It is often difficult to meet all the businesses present at these networking opportunities" said Brian McDonnell, emcee of the event and director of the Paul Smith's College VIC. "Here, participants will be given an opportunity to both learn and talk about how businesses can more fully partner with each other."
Business speed networking divides businesses and organizations up into groups. Half of each group is sitting down while the other half rotate to a new seated person every 3-5 minutes. In this way everyone gets a chance to interact with each other in a coordinated "speed dating" way!
"The focus of this speed networking opportunity is how businesses and organizations can partner together," said Ernest Hohmeyer, member of the Tourism Council and owner of the Lake Clear Lodge and Retreat. "The customer today is often looking for diverse services or products. By working together, our small businesses can package our individual services."
"Even though we are a small community, we often are not totally aware what our businesses and organizations offer," said Cathy Moore, publisher of the Adirondack Daily Enterprise and member of the Tourism Council. "This is not only important for partnering but as a source of referrals to other customers."
All business and organizations are welcome to attend.
