Pisgah open for tubing but closed for skiing

SARANAC LAKE - Mount Pisgah Ski Center will likely be closed for skiing through the weekend, but its tubing run will be open for the first time this winter.

The mountain has been closed since Tuesday. Manager Garrett Foster said this morning that crews have been making snow and there's now enough to cover one of the mountain's trails, but the center's groomer has broken down and he's been waiting for a new part. The wrong part has been sent twice, he said.

"The weather has not hurt a thing," Foster said. "We've been making snow all week, and we've got a ton of snow. We've just not been able to groom it."

The tubing run will open for the season today and will be open through the weekend.

"We're hoping to be open for skiing on Tuesday," Foster said. "If we do open this weekend (for skiing), it will be a last-minute thing."

The Golden Ski Race, which had been scheduled to take place tonight, has been postponed until next Friday.
