Seton races past Blue Bombers

PLATTSBURGH - The Seton Catholic boys basketball team limited Lake Placid to six points in the first half on the way to a 67-30 Northern Basketball League victory Wednesday.

The Blue Bombers improved in the second half with 24 points, but by then it was too late to make a serious run at the lead.

Garrett Woodruff scored eight points, while teammates Raymond Zhang and Tarik Cecunjanin each hit for six.

Seton Catholic's Chris Kustos led all scorers with 13 points. Nic Favreau chipped in 12 points and Keagan Briggs scored 10.

Lake Placid returns to action Friday at home against Chazy.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Saranac 70, Saranac Lake 25

SARANAC - The Saranac girls basketball team outscored Saranac Lake 24-4 in the first quarter Wednesday and never looked back on the way to a 70-25 victory.

The Chiefs led 43-9 at halftime and 65-14 through three quarters.

Shanna Buckley led the Red Storm in scoring with six points. Saranac Lake evened its record to 4-4 overall with the loss.

Tori Trim paced Saranac with 15 points, followed by Summer Gillespie with 12 and Kayla Napper with 10.

TUESDAY

Lake Placid 39, Seton Catholic 37, OT

LAKE PLACID - The Lake Placid girls basketball team used a big third quarter to force its way back into the game then came out on top in overtime Tuesday in a 39-37 victory over Seton Catholic.

After trailing 23-18 at halftime, the Blue Bombers came out strong in the third quarter, outscoring the Knights 10-0. Lake Placid secured the win with a 6-4 scoring advantage in the overtime period.

Adele Jesmer connected on four 3-pointers on her way to a team-high 15-point outing for Lake Placid. Cheyenne Blair chipped in eight points, nine rebounds and six steals and Hanna Potter pulled down 11 rebounds.

Hailey Moore paced Seton Catholic with 11 points.

BOYS HOCKEY

Beekmantown 7, Saranac Lake 3

PLATTSBURGH - The Saranac Lake boys hockey team scored a goal in each period Wednesday, but it wasn't enough as Beekmantown skated off with a 7-3 Champlain Valley Athletic Conference victory.

Drew Sturgeon scored in the first, Brad Shumway in the second and David Cluckey in the third to account for the Red Storm goals. Blake Battistoni recorded two assists and Shumway had one.

Nathan Foster scored three goals and Kyle Constanty had two to lead Beekmantown, which improved to 6-1 with the victory.

The Eagles outshot Saranac Lake 36-25. Blake Darrah had 29 saves for the Red Storm, who fell to 1-3 in league games and 1-6-1 overall.

Dustin Plumadore recorded 22 saves for Beekmantown.

Saranac Lake hosts Northeastern Clinton next Wednesday.
