Local artist’s work accepted for S.U.’s Stone Canoe

Adirondack Daily Enterprise

SARANAC LAKE - One of local artist Larry Poole's intaglio prints has been selected for inclusion in 2014 edition of Syracuse University's journal Stone Canoe.

The award winning journal showcases the work of a diverse mix of emerging and well-established artists and writers with connections to Upstate New York. In doing so, the journal supports Syracuse University's ongoing efforts to nurture creative community partnerships and seeks to promote a greater awareness of the cultural and intellectual richness that characterizes life in the region.

Poole was delighted to have his print "Houseboat Environs" included in Stone Canoe and is looking forward to an exhibition "Vein 8" at the ArtRage Gallery which showcases the work of 24 artists whose work is included in the journal. The opening reception for the exhibition is Jan. 18 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the ArtRage Gallery which is located 505 Hawley Avenue, Syracuse. The exhibit runs from Jan. 11 through Feb. 8, 2014. Gallery hours are 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday to Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.

In addition to celebrating the launch of the 2014 Stone Canoe journal, prizes in five categories: visual arts, poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and veterans' writing will be awarded at the opening reception.

Poole's work has been shown extensively in the region and this past summer four of his prints were included in an exhibition at the Islip Art Museum on Long Island. Poole lives in Saranac Lake and does his printmaking at BluSeed Studios. He is also a member of ArtWorks Saranac Lake.
