Wing wars

January 3, 2014
Adirondack Daily Enterprise
Above, two bald eagles feed on a large carcass, possibly of a deer, on Dec. 27 on frozen Lake Simond in Tupper Lake. Christiana Allen said the birds were about 50 feet offshore, so she combined the forces of her iPhone and binoculars to zoom in on the action. “This is my first sighting of the eagles on the ice,” she wrote in an email. “I’ve seen them flying over the lake but never have seen them land, and so close to shore.”
