Placid Rotarians help Literacy Volunteers

December 31, 2013
Adirondack Daily Enterprise

To the editor:

Literacy Volunteers of Essex/Franklin Counties would like to acknowledge and thank the Rotary Club of Lake Placid for raising $1,500 through its November Trivia Night. This event raised much-needed funds and public awareness for Literacy Volunteers, a charitable organization that provides adult literacy programs in Essex and Franklin counties.

Funding will be used to provide direct services to adults participating in our literacy programs as well as educational materials, books and supplies. Last year Literacy Volunteers supported more than 35 adult learners in the Tri-Lakes region who wanted to improve their literacy skills, enter post-secondary education, gain employment and much more. This year we have hit the ground running and are currently serving 22 adult learners in the Tri-Lakes region. We are fortunate to have support from the Rotary Club and the individual members who helped organize and promote the event. Thank you so much, and we look forward to the next trivia night!
