Chiefs edge Lumberjacks in Section VII/X Challenge

POTSDAM - Anson Gagnier drained four 3-pointers for Tupper Lake on Monday, but it wasn't enough as the Lumberjacks had to settle for a 52-49 loss to Saranac in a Section VII/X Challenge game.

Gagnier finished with a game-high 17 points and Mitch Keniston hit for 13 to pace Tupper Lake.

Section VII won six of the 10 games that were part of the Section VII/X Challenge.

Dylan Christopherson connected on 7-of-9 shots for 14 points, John Maye had 12 points and 12 rebounds and Mitch Pellerin scored 11 points to lead the Chiefs.

The Lumberjacks had the ball in the final possession of the game, but were unable to get a shot off.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Canton 2, Saranac Lake 0

CANTON - The Saranac Lake girls hockey team fell 2-0 Monday in Canton.

The Golden Bears got a goal from Natalie Giglio in the opening period, a second-period goal by Kait Mace and a 17-save shutout effort in nets from Elizabeth Burke to earn the win.

Lindsay Reeve had a strong effort between the pipes for the Red Storm, stopping 28 of the 30 shots she faced during the setback.
