LAKE PLACID - Roberta Mae Wilford, 91, a lifelong resident of Lake Placid, died on Monday, Dec. 23, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.
Mrs. Wilford was a licensed beautician and owned and operated Roberta's Beauty Shop in Lake Placid.
Born on Dec. 17, 1922 in Lake Placid, she was the daughter of the late Lynn and Gertrude (Peck) Whitney. In May of 1946, she married Donald Wilford, who predeceased her on July 14, 1985.
Mrs. Wilford was a member of the Adirondack Community Church in Lake Placid.
She is survived by her two daughters: Donna Speller and her husband, Sidney, of Wingdale and Lisa Faught and her husband, Steven, of Hazlehurst, Ga; two sons: Brian and Scott Wilford both of Lake Placid; three brothers: Richard Whitney of Lake Placid and Lynn Whitney Jr. or Lake Clear and Garry Whitney of Harkness; two sisters: Shirley Coolidge of Lake Placid and Fern Hawke of Dewitt; four grandchildren: Heather Vincent and Keegan, Kelton and Kyler Faught; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Robert Whitney.
Calling hours will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27 at the M.B. Clark Inc. Funeral Home, 2310 Saranac Ave. Lake Placid. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at North Elba Cemetery in Lake Placid.
