SARANAC LAKE - On Tuesday this village's planning board will give the public its first chance to comment and ask questions at an open meeting about a hotel planned for the shore of Lake Flower.
This public input session will be part of a special planning board meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday in the village offices inside the Harrietstown Town Hall, at 39 Main St. The meeting was called specifically on the proposal by Lake Flower Lodging LLC, headed by hotel developer Chris LaBarge of Malone, to construct a 90-room hotel, conference facility and restaurant between the shore of Lake Flower and Lake Flower Avenue, on land now occupied by three motels.
So far there has been some disagreement among villagers and planning board members as to whether the hotel would be too tall and whether it could create parking and traffic problems.

LaBarge recently submitted an updated application that includes information required by the village's regulations for a planned unit development district, according to village Community Development Director Jeremy Evans.
"The planning board will be reviewing the application for completeness," Evans said in a press release. "Although not required at this stage in the PUDD process, the meeting will also include a public comment period that will give the public its first chance to provide input about the project."
If the board deems the application complete, the next step is for the planning board to issue an advisory report to the village board.
Evans stressed that there will be plenty of additional opportunities for the public to comment on the project.
"The PUDD process includes several public hearings to insure that there is adequate public input," he said.
Lake Flower Lodging's new PUDD sketch plan application is on file in the village Community Development Department in the town hall and may be inspected between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. any weekday prior to the hearing.
