Lake Flower hotel height study set for Wednesday

SARANAC LAKE - Balloons are scheduled to be floated above the site of a proposed 90-room hotel on Lake Flower starting Wednesday morning as part of a visual impact study of the project.

Joe Garso of Saranac Lake-based North Woods Engineering was hired to conduct the study by Chris LaBarge of Lake Flower Lodging, the company behind the project. The hotel would be built on the site of three existing Lake Flower Avenue motels: the Lake Flower Inn, the Lakeside Motel and the Adirondack Motel.

In a press release, Garso wrote that two sets of balloons will be flown to mark either end of the proposed hotel. A bright blue "building" balloon will be flown at approximately 60 feet, the proposed hotel's ridge line. A yellow "spotter" balloon will be flown at 90 feet to assist in locating the lower balloon, Garso said.

"Pictures for the study will be taken at different locations throughout the area, at sites approved by the Adirondack Park Agency and village of Saranac Lake," Garso wrote. An image of the hotel will later be added to the photos as part of the visual analysis of the project.

The balloons will likely stay up for 24 to 48 hours, depending on the weather, Garso said.
