To the editor:
During the first week of November, 254 coats were given to members of our community - a very successful outcome of the first annual coat giveaway event sponsored by St. Luke's Episcopal Church and the Quaker Meeting of Saranac Lake. The two churches pooled their efforts to support this initiative and worked diligently to advertise this event (flyers, radio announcements, newspaper ads), collecting coats, distributing coats, tirelessly focusing on how to get the word out and then making it easy and friendly for people to take advantage of the program.
As coordinator of the first annual coat giveaway, I would like to thank this wonderful community for stepping up and making the event a grand success!

Many thanks to the following people who unselfishly gave their time and efforts: Rev. Ann Gaillard, Mary Lawthers, Margo Nagle, Barb Touby, Patti Peebles, Franny Preston, Susan Olsen and Lee Foster from St. Luke's Church; Mary A. Brown, Bea Beguin, Nancy Murphy and Emily Foppert from the Quaker Meeting; Susan Moore from the Adirondack Daily Enterprise for her efforts to get the word out timely; Ted Morgan and his staff from WNBZ for announcing the event; American Village and Myrddin Roddy from the Community Store for hangers; all of the stores, churches and other organizations that posted our flyer and announced our event; and the many generous donors of coats and jackets. Because of your kindness, many people in the community will be warmer this winter.
