The Adirondack Artists' Guild is pleased to announce an exhibition of photographs by Jon Chodat, winner of the Guild's 2013 Juried Show. The exhibit, titled A Multifarious Photographic Collection, will run from Nov. 1 to Dec. 1, 2013 at the gallery, 52 Main St. in Saranac Lake. The opening reception takes place on Nov. 1, from 5 to 7 p.m.

"A Multifarious Photographic Collection presents a small selection of the great variety of photographs I have taken over many years - of people, places, creatures and things," Chodat writes about his work. "Appreciating what is around you brings about an attentiveness to lighting, composition, and the interaction of details, and has led to a passion for the art. When engaging with and focusing on one's surroundings, whether it be a ramshackle old building, a bitterly cold day on a frozen river, a smiling face, a creature busy with its life duties, or a friend with a great many stories to tell the camera is only a small part of the reason for being there.

"As a child my first camera was a Brownie Hawkeye, and since then photography has been a part of my life. After high school, where I served as president of the camera club and was introduced to darkroom work, I continued to take pictures, but about 30 years ago I undertook a more serious pursuit of photographic skills, and I moved into wedding, portrait, nature and scenic photography, and set up my own darkroom. Teaching photography to teens and adults at a local school in Malone also followed.

"Generally, you won't find me without a camera close by; if you do, I've probably left my pants at home, too," Chodat said. "I have had the pleasure of exhibiting in galleries in the area and have received several awards for a variety of images. I am also honored to have a number of my photos on display in people's homes."
