PLATTSBURGH - The Lake Placid girls soccer season came to an end in heartbreaking fashion Friday in the Section VII, Class C semifinals as Northern Adirondack escaped with the shootout victory.
The teams ended in a 1-1 draw after 80 minutes of regulation time, then battled through four overtime periods without a goal to send the game into a penalty kick shootout. The Blue Bombers connected on their first two kicks, but missed the next two while Northern Adirondack converted all four of its chances.
The Bobcats advanced to the championship game where they will face Seton Catholic, a 1-0 overtime winner over Ticonderoga.

Northern Adirondack got on the board first in Friday's game when Rachael Venne took a pass from Juliana Gardner to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead 17:05 into the first half.
Lake Placid answered in the second half when Liza Marinis navigated her way through the NAC defense for an unassisted goal at the 19:18 mark of the second half.
The teams played evenly from there, with neither able to muster a goal. Northern Adirondack had seven corner kicks during that time and outshot Lake Placid 14-4.
Lake Placid goalkeeper Laura Stanton stopped eight shots throughout the game.
Senior Emily Godin and freshman Taylor Barney each converted their penalty kicks to open the shootout session.
Plattsburgh 3, Saranac Lake 1
SARANAC LAKE - The Saranac Lake volleyball team wrapped up its regular season schedule Friday with a 25-14, 20-25, 25-18, 25-18 defeat against Plattsburgh.
Samantha Martin had eight digs, three kills and two aces, while Olivia Atkinson and Brittany Woodruff each recorded seven digs to lead the Red Storm. Alivia Sapone chipped in four aces and four digs and Ellen Miner had three aces and four digs.
Plattsburgh was led by Sam Martin, who racked up 12 service points and 12 kills.
SARANAC LAKE - The stage has been set for the Section VII football championships as three games will be held Saturday at AuSable Valley Central School.
Saranac Lake heads into Saturday's action as the top seed in Class C and will face Saranac Central in the final set for 3 p.m. The Chiefs punched their ticket into the title game with a 28-0 victory over AuSable Valley Saturday.
Both squads have 4-4 records heading into the matchup. The Chiefs topped the Red Storm 34-13 two weeks ago during the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference regular season.
Top-seed Peru and Beekmantown will kick off the action starting at 11 a.m. in the Class B championship game. The third contest of the day will be the Class D final featuring rivals Ticonderoga and Moriah. That matchup starts at 7 p.m.
To the west, Tupper Lake's football team has one more Section X cross-over game prior to the playoffs. The Lumberjacks host Massena Friday at 7 p.m. On the following weekend, the 'Jacks will take on the winner of Saturday's Ticonderoga-Moriah game in the Section VII, Section X Class D regional North Country Superbowl.
