LAKE CLEAR - A horse died after it wandered into the road and was hit by a pickup truck here Tuesday evening.

Matthew A. Thivierge, 31, of Saranac Lake, was driving west on state Route 186 in a 2004 Ford pickup truck at 5:37 p.m. when a horse entered the road and his vehicle struck it, according to state police spokeswoman Jennifer Fleishman.

The truck was severely damaged, but Thivierge, who was wearing his seatbelt, was not injured, Fleishman said.

The horse succumbed to its injuries a short time later, she said.

No tickets were issued.

Fleishman said the horse belonged to Danyell Donaldson of Lake Clear.
