Deborah J. Collins, 61, formerly of Saranac Lake and currently of 89 Greenwood St., Lake Placid, died Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh.

Born in Saranac Lake on Sept. 5, 1952, she was the daughter of James and Rita (Raynor) Johnson.

Debbie attended and graduated from Saranac Lake High School. She had been employed at the Econo Lodge in Lake Placid for several years. Prior to that she had been employed at the American Management Association in Saranac Lake for 14 years and had lived and worked at various businesses in Plattsburgh for a while before moving to Lake Placid.

Debbie enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, watching them in their various sporting events. She was so proud of her newest granddaughter Karleigh Jean, and she loved spending time at the beach with her best friend Cissy.

She is survived by two daughters: Lisa Meyer and her husband Bob of Saranac Lake and Jodi Collins of Saranac Lake; one son, Bill Collins of Saranac Lake; five grandchildren: Brandon, Ryan, Justin and Kylee Meyer and Karleigh Moody; one brother James Johnson of Plattsburgh; and three sisters: Linda Garrant and her husband Richard of Plattsburgh, Judith Blandford of Charlotte Hall, Md. and Barbara Bradford and her husband Ronald of Tampa, Fla.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Loretta Johnson and Rita Gonyea.

Calling hours will take place from 4 to 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23 at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A memorial service will immediately follow at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Reilly officiating. Burial will take place in the family lot in Chasm Falls Cemetery on Thursday.
