MASSENA - Robert Brown Jr., 86, of Northview Drive, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, Oct. 13, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family and the care of Hospice.
Robert was born to the late Robert P. and Valeda (LaFountain) Brown in Tupper Lake on Aug. 19, 1927. Robert attended Tupper Lake High School and later went on to business school in Plattsburgh.
He was enlisted in the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1946.
He married the love of his life, Shirley McDonald, on Jan. 10, 1953, in Norwood. Twenty-five years later, his marriage was blessed in St. Alphonsus Church by Msgr. Dumas.
Robert was employed at the National Army store in Tupper Lake where he managed for more than 45 years. Robert was a member of the Tupper Lake VFW and also volunteered for the Tupper Lake and Potsdam Fire Department. He also belonged to the Tupper Lake Country Club.
Robert is survived by his two sons: Tom and wife Kathleen of Heuvelton and Don of Massena; a daughter Linda and husband Mark Mittiga of Massena; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; his sister Joyce Earle and a sister in-law Jackie Brown, both of Tupper Lake; and sister and brother-in law Anna and husband Don Wilcox, Fla.
He was recently predeceased by his wife of nearly 60 years, Shirley, and a daughter, Mary Frances Casey, in 2007, and by his three brothers: Roy, James and Donald.
Memorial contributions may be made in Robert's memory to the Massena Volunteer Rescue Squad or Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.
There will be no public calling hours. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
