Blue Bombers volleyball wins second in a row

LAKE PLACID - The Lake Placid volleyball team is on a roll. The Blue Bombers won their second match in a row Thursday with a 25-23, 25-13, 29-27 victory over Peru.

Thursday's win came in the wake of a 3-0 sweep of Saranac Lake on Tuesday. The Blue Bombers are now 2-9 on the season.

Ally Wallace had a strong match of the Blue Bombers, collecting 13 service points, four aces and five kills. Brenna Garrett racked up seven points, four kills and six assists.

Taylor Maiorca chipped in four assists and two kills and Georgia O'Leary and Kiana Fell each served up six points.

Lea Perry led the way for the Indians with three aces and seven assists, while teammates Louie Dayton and Karlee Stephney had eight points apiece.

Peru is 2-8.

Northern Adirondack 3, Saranac Lake 1

SARANAC LAKE - Northern Adirondack and Saranac Lake split the first two games of Thursday's match, but the Bobcats picked it up in the final two to secure the victory.

The game scores were 25-22, 20-25, 25-19, 25-22.

Samantha Martin had a strong defensive game for the Red Storm with 16 digs, to go along with her four aces, two kills and eight service points. Brittany Woodruff chipped in 12 digs, while Ellen Miner had 10 points and three kills.

Zoey Varin connected for 10 kills to lead Northern Adirondack.

GIRLS SOCCER

Ticonderoga 2, Lake Placid 0

LAKE PLACID - The Ticonderoga girls soccer team scored a goal in each half Thursday on the way to a 2-0 Northern Soccer League victory over Lake Placid.

With the Blue Bombers seniors playing their final regular season home game, Lake Placid outshot the Sentinels 8-2 but were unable to find the back of the net.

Savannah Bezon scored the game's first goal just before halftime and Kylie Austin put the game out of reach with a goal 10 minutes into the second half.

Laura Stanton made two saves for Lake Placid.

Peru 2, Saranac Lake 1

SARANAC LAKE - The Saranac Lake girls soccer team made a late push Thursday against Peru, but had to settle for a 2-1 loss.

Saranac Lake senior Jenny Ward took a pass from Logan Hochwald and scored in the second half to cut into Peru's two-goal lead. The Red Storm were unable to come up with the equalizer as time expired on the game.

Rachel Sheldrick had two goals and Lindsey Bushey was credited with both assists for the Indians.

Sheila Decker turned away 14 shots in goal for the Red Storm, who were outshot 17-10.
