A stretch of state Route 86 between Saranac Lake and Lake Placid will be reduced to one alternating lane of traffic beginning next week, the state Department of Transportation announced Thursday.
Crews will be replacing guiderails along the highway, and traffic will be controlled by flaggers from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. starting Tuesday. The lane closures and road work, depending on the weather, are expected to last until Oct. 24.
DOT reminded motorists that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.
"It is imperative that motorists remember to drive carefully through this construction zone, for their own safety and the safety of workers," the agency said in a press release.
