Telluride Mountainfilm looms

LAKE PLACID - The Lake Placid Center for the Arts will present Telluride's Mountainfilm on Tour Film Festival at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Tickets are $12 or $10 for LPCA members. Tickets are available at www.lakeplacidarts.org or by calling the LPCA box office at 518-523-2512.

Started in 1979, Mountainfilm in Telluride is one of America's longest-running film festivals. The four-day festival attracts filmmakers, photographers, conservationists, mountaineers and explorers from around the world to the box-canyon town of Telluride, Colo., and the gondola-linked Mountain Village.

Today, the Mountainfilm festival occupies dozens of venues in Telluride and Mountain Village. In addition to showcasing leading independent films and filmmakers, the festival now includes symposia and panels, gallery exhibits of art and photography, book signings, breakfast talks, student programs, music and street parties.
