Food pantry grateful for help; it’s needed

October 5, 2013
Adirondack Daily Enterprise

To the editor:

Recently, there was a letter to the editor describing the empty shelves at the food pantry. That letter generated an incredible outpouring of food and funds. The schools gathered food; the middle school alone filled a small SUV with cans and cartons of food. Additionally, the money donated by two individuals and the money collected by Shirley Hosler will provide the means to purchase food for a little over three months.

This past year our federal grant decreased by more than 25 percent as there were 44 new appeals from the area north of Albany. The grant is awarded in July and must be used by the following June 30; we will have used all of our grant money this month. The number of children we see has increased by 13 percent, the number of seniors by 11 percent.

On behalf of the volunteers and our customers, I want to thank everyone in our community for their continued, generous support.
