TUPPER LAKE - Power was knocked out downtown in the village when a vehicle driven by Benjamin H. Cardin, of Granby, Conn., struck a utility pole.

Village police said Cardin was traveling west on state Route 3 at 6:18 p.m. Tuesday when he fell asleep and veered off the road. His vehicle then hit a utility pole on the corner of Elm Street. No one was injured.

Cardin was issued a ticket for failure to maintain lane.
