Shirley M. Brown, 84, passed into the hands of the Lord Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013 at the St. Regis Nursing Home, Massena.
Shirley was born June 21, 1929, to Hebert and Mary (Bean) McDonald in Potsdam. After graduating from Potsdam High School in 1947, she began her career with the New York Telephone Co. in Potsdam.
On Jan. 10, 1953 she married Robert Brown in Potsdam, where they resided
until 1961, at which time the family relocated to Tupper Lake.
Shirley continued with New York Telephone in Saranac Lake while raising her family. She worked part time for Sunmount in Tupper Lake at the switchboard and also helped her husband at the National Army Store, which he managed in Tupper Lake.
In 2010, Shirley and Bob relocated to Massena.
Shirley enjoyed spending time her family as well bowling, golfing, traveling, reading and knitting.
Shirley was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who is survived by her husband Bob of 60 years; two sons: Tom and wife Kathleen of Heuvelton and Don of Massena; a daughter Linda and husband Mark of Massena; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; a sister Anna Wilcox of Florida; a brother Norman McDonald of Rochester; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Shirley was predeceased by her daughter Mary Casey in 2007; her parents; a brother Roy McDonald; sisters: Regina Young, Alberta Phillips and Marion McDonald; and a niece Sandra LaFleur.
There will be no public calling hours. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
