Bobcats volleyball strong on road

The Paul Smith's College volleyball team put on a competitive showing against Yankee Small College Conference opponents last Saturday in matches played at Unity College in Maine.

The Bobcats posted a win and two losses on a day where they played 11 games with a majority of those being decided by just a few points.

Paul Smith's picked up its win against the New Hampshire Technical Institute. The 'Cats dropped the first set 17-25, but won the next three games by scores of 25-17, 25-20 and 25-21.

The Bobcats claimed the opening game during a 3-1 setback to the University of Maine Machias. In that contest Paul Smith's started with a 25-23 win, but dropped the next three 28-30, 22-25 and 19-25.

They were also swept 3-0 by host Unity College, but only lost by a combined total of eight points. Unity picked up two of its wins by 26-24 scores and won the middle game 25-21.

The competition at Maine marked the beginning of the YSCC schedule for Paul Smith's, which is now 1-2 in league play and 2-5 overall.

The Paul Smith's volleyball roster includes juniors Morgan Cuozzo, Laine Sullivan, Rebecca Raffan, Holli Borrino, Susan Cragg, Deanna Pfau and freshmen Kristin Wise, Nicole Armstrong, Desiree Stumpf, Mary Calabrese, Jordon Solomon and Moriah Orr.

The Bobcats next play on the road today at Canton and return home Thursday, Sept. 19 to host Word of Life.
