HIGH PEAKS GOLF COURSE
Come play at our challenging 9-hole course. Offering beautiful views of the surrounding mountains, this par 33 municipal course has four sets of tees for every age group. The Clubhouse has a pro shop, snack bar and rental information. For more information, call the Clubhouse 582-2300. The course entrance is located on Santanoni Drive.
HISTORIC CAMP SANTANONI ON NEWCOMB LAKE
Camp Santanoni was built beginning in 1892 for Robert and Anna Pruyn and eventually consisted of more than four dozen buildings on 12,900 acres. Stop at the beautiful stone Gate lodge and visit with the interns who can provide additional information and guided tours during the summer season. The main lodge is a 4.7 mile walk from the parking lot. Entrance is off Route 28N one mile east of the Adirondack Interpretive Center. Don't want to walk? Newcomb is the southern access to the High Peaks region and has the largest number of trailheads in the Adirondacks. Trails to Marcy, Algonquin and Colden peaks are accessible from the Upper Works trailhead as well as hikes to the Duck Hole and Santanoni Mountain. On your drive to these trailheads, please stop and marvel at the engineering beauty of the MacIntyre Blast Furnace (circa 1848) and the once thriving village of Adirondac. Mt. Adams fire tower trailhead is also located along CR25 and was placed on the National Historic Register in 2006. Goodnow Mountain fire tower trailhead is located on Rt. 28N and offers a self guided nature trail with interpretive pamphlets at the trailhead.
TOWN OF NEWCOMB BEACH AND BOAT LAUNCH
The town beach is 17 acres with 3,500 feet frontage on Lake Harris. Amenities include a sand beach with dock, life guards, a basketball court, children's playground, shaded areas, a changing house and rest rooms, a covered pavilion with tables and barbeques are available. A separate boat launch with ramp is located away from the swimming area. The beach entrance is located off Route 28N on Lake Harris Road. Plenty of parking!
The Overlook offers a spectacular panoramic view of the High Peaks and all you need to climb is out of your car! Picnic tables with barbeques make for a lovely afternoon as you study the monument and learn names of the area's mountains. Rest facilities are available. Travel down Santanoni Drive to the Hudson River Information Center and learn the important role that logging played in Newcomb's history.
