‘Enhancing Your Retirement with Music’

August 29, 2013
Adirondack Daily Enterprise

SARANAC LAKE - Steve Borst and Sue Grimm Hanley, area musicians, performers and music teachers, will present "Enhancing Your Retirement with Music" from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, as part of the Saranac Village at Will Rogers' Road to Retirement Series.

Gene Cohen, M.D., Ph.D., a renowned physiatrist and gerontologist, said that science proves that activities such as music and art lead people to live longer and healthier lives.

Steve Borst will focus on playing the guitar and will show participants that they can also learn to play a melody on the guitar using the Tableture method. He will explain this system and have guitars available for those who would like to try one out.

Sue Grimm Hanley, who teaches a variety of instruments, will offer opportunities to learn to play a Celtic whistle and African djembe drums. She will teach a short tune on the Celtic whistle by ear and also show three basic drumming techniques that can be used for improvisational play on the drums.

The Road to Retirement Series features programs related to the opportunities and challenges of retiring, focusing on services and resources that can help people retire successfully and happily.

This program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

For information, call 518-891-7117.
