Crown Point man gets 15 years for killing brother

August 9, 2013

CROWN POINT (AP) - A 72-year-old man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for admittedly killing his younger brother during an argument at the northern New York home they shared.

Essex County District Attorney Kristy Sprague says David Lang was sentenced Thursday in county court, where he pleaded guilty in June to first-degree manslaughter. He had been charged with second-degree murder and could have faced up to life in prison.

Investigators said Lang was arguing with 63-year-old Russell Lang on their property in the Essex County town of Crown Point when he shot his brother in the head in June 2012. Officials say the elder Lang then called 911 to report the shooting.

Sprague had said earlier that the Langs' relatives agreed to the plea bargain to put the case to rest.
