19 of 24 puppies recovered; Man facing 24 misdemeanor charges

PLATTSBURGH - The man Plattsburgh city police have accused of abandoning 24 puppies throughout Clinton County has been charged with 24 counts of abandonment of animals in violation of New York Agriculture and Market Law section 355.

Police arrested Michael D. Staley, 36, Wednesday after he allegedly removed the puppies from Northern Puppies, a business owned by his wife, Tammy Staley. Police closed Northern Puppies last month and charged Tammy with two counts of animal cruelty after two kittens were found dead there.

To date, 19 of the missing puppies have been recovered by police and area volunteers.

Michael is awaiting arraignment at the Plattsburgh Police Department lock-up. He is scheduled to appear in City Court in front of Judge Mark Roberts at 8:30 a.m. Friday.
