Joan M. LaHart died Saturday, July 20, 2013, in her home in Lake Placid, surrounded by her family.
Joan was born Dec. 19, 1926, in Brooklyn, the daughter of Pauline and Joseph Grant. She graduated from Bishop McDonnell High School and Katherine Gibbs Secretarial Academy in New York City.
In 1947 Joan and her mother arrived in Lake Placid for the summer.
She was employed at the Marcy Hotel and dated one of the locals, Jack LaHart. In September of 1948 they were married in St. Agnes Church.
Having raised six children, Joan became the owner and operator of Upstate Vending in 1981, upon the passing of her husband, Jack.
Joan's relationship with St. Agnes Church continued over the years. She was involved with the Catholic Daughters and was the church secretary for many years until her retirement in 2009.
Joan is survived by Susan (Wenzell) Hayes of Adams Center, Lisa (George) Spence of Hatfield, Mass., Linda (Scott) Benty, Steve LaHart, Russell LaHart of Lake Placid, William LaHart of Hatfield, Mass., 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, at M.B. Clark Inc. Funeral Home in Lake Placid. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 1 p.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Lake Placid, with the Rev. John Yonkovig officiating. Burial will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery.
