SARANAC LAKE - The Adirondack Plein Air Festival, sponsored by Saranac Lake ArtWorks, begins on Aug. 15. Artists will converge on Saranac Lake for the opportunity to paint "en plein air," outdoors, on location in our historic village and surrounding areas. On Thursday, it's the "Paint the Town" event. Friday, Aug. 16 will be "Paint the VIC" day. Saturday Aug 17 is "Paint the Adirondacks" day, when artists will be free to paint at any location.
Saranac Lake ArtWorks would like to encourage home and business owners to sign up for a painting. We can't guarantee an artist will select your location as their subject matter, but they might. It could be your home, business, garden, etc. You also won't be obligated to purchase a painting either, but might want to at least come see what they look like.
Artists might choose to do your place as their 5-inch-by-7-inch Paint the Town" piece, which they donate back to Saranac Lake ArtWorks for a Silent Auction. Anyone can bid on them, with bids starting at $40, or a "Buy it Now" for $150 can be done for an immediate purchase. Some painters might decide to paint in the Village on one of the other days, or in the evening, in which case they can do whatever size piece they wish. Artists will be working in oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, and other drawing media.
The Show and Sale of works produced during the Festival will be on Sunday, Aug. 18 from noon to 4 p.m. in the Harrietstown Town Hall Auditorium, 39 Main St.
There is no admission charge. Artists will be bringing their pieces there in the morning and our Juror, Canadian artist Bruce Newman, will select the Award Winners. The Show opens to the public at noon and awards will be presented at 1 p.m.
Anyone who would like to be on the list of painting sites is asked to call 518-891-1388 and leave a message clearly stating their name, phone number and the address they would like painted.
