LAKE PLACID - On May 21, Mercy Care for the Adirondacks commissioned new Friendship Volunteers Karen Fleming, Gladys Hatch, Arlene Horton, Raymond McIntyre, Albert Pozzi, Margaret Ratigan, Cynthia Rowe, and Arthur Volmrich. The training and commissioning ceremony were held at St. Margaret's Convent Library and Chapel in Lake Placid.
Mercy Care has recruited and trained more than 100 Friendship Volunteers who have contributed more than 13,000 hours of volunteer service in the Tri-Lakes area since January 2008. Sr. Catherine Cummings, RSM, Ed.D., R.N., directs Mercy Care's Friendship Volunteer and Parish Nurse programs.
An elder receiving assistance from a Mercy Care Friendship Volunteer said recently, "My volunteer is such a blessing: she cheers me up, is so helpful. She is like a member of my family. I would be lost without her. I live alone and I know my volunteer is available if I need her. I thank God for her. Keep on spreading your love, kindness, care. Mercy is a perfect name for you."
