SARANAC - The Kaganovsky Duo will perform a free concert at 4 p.m. Sunday at the historic United Methodist Church on Route 3 in Saranac.
More than musical partners, Russian violinist Artur Kaganovsky and Hungarian violist Eszter Szilveszter are husband and wife. Contrasting artistic personalities might lead them down diverging career paths ? he is a flamboyant virtuoso soloist while she is more the diligent ensemble player ? but their Duo is a constant theme anchoring their life.
Their concert program will feature music spanning three centuries, with representative works from the baroque, classical, and romantic periods, as well as a contemporary piece composed especially for them and a perennial favorite tango number. Two exquisite miniature sonatas by the French baroque violinist-composer Jean-Marie Leclair (1697-1764) will open the concert, to be followed by Gran Duo of the famous Austrian pedagogue-composer Ignaz Pleyel (1757-1831). Pleyel was not only a student and close friend of Joseph Haydn, but founder of the legendary Salle Pleyel concert hall in Paris.
