State police charged an Indian Lake man with multiple counts of statutory rape this week for allegedly having an ongoing sexual relationship with an underage girl.
William J. Blair, 28, was arrested at 5 a.m. Tuesday and charged with three felonies: second-degree rape, third-degree rape and second-degree criminal sexual act. He was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.
State Police Investigator Tim Woodruff said Blair had a sexual relationship with a girl when she was between the ages of 14 and 16 and too young to consent to sex. The age of legal consent in New York is 17.
"It's been an ongoing thing for the last two-and-a-half to three years," Woodruff said. "We knew about it but didn't have the information to make an arrest until recently when someone came forward."
Woodruff wouldn't say who provided the information that led to Blair's arrest. He said the pair knew each other "just from being together in a small town."
Blair was arraigned in town of Indian Lake court and remanded to the Hamilton County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond.
