LAKE PLACID - High Peaks Resort has been purchased by a New York City-based owner and operator of resorts and hotels across the country.
AWH Partners LLC announced its acquisition of the hotel Monday.
The company was founded by Russ Flicker, Jon Rosenfeld and Chad Cooley and manages 15 other hotels, six of which it owns.
In March 2012, AWH Partners bought the resort's current management company, Lane Hospitality, which it rebranded Spire Hospitality this May.
"The transition to AWH Partners ownership only adds value to the existing operation of High Peaks Resort, which will continue to operate under the leadership of General Manager Bob Trotter," Bill DeForrest, president and CEO of Spire Hospitality, said in the press release.
He said he expected upgrades to the resort to start late this year and be done by next summer 2014.
AWH Partners has contracted with Reed Miller - a Lake Placid enthusiast, Northwood School graduate and New York Ski Education Foundation board member - to build on the resort's connection with the Lake Placid community.
"We are ecstatic about acquiring this wonderful asset and partnering with Mr. Miller," Cooley said in a press release. "We have fallen in love with High Peaks and believe we will be successful by establishing deeper roots within Lake Placid. We have set aside substantial funds to make aesthetic improvements to the resort and look forward to working with the community on our plans."
The hotel was a Hilton until 2008, when it underwent a massive renovation as well as a name change.
