SACKETS HARBOR (AP) - The Coast Guard has rescued three boaters on the Black River in Jefferson County and charged the vessel's operator with boating while intoxicated.
Jefferson County emergency dispatchers received a report at 9:42 p.m. Saturday that a 16-foot boat was disabled on the Black River near the Dexter Dam. A Coast Guard crew from Sackets Harbor and a rescue boat from Jefferson County were dispatched to help.
The Coast Guard ended up towing the Jefferson County boat to shore when it ran into trouble in dangerous currents. Then it returned to the disabled boat and towed it to safety.
State police did a breath test on the boat's operator on shore and found his blood alcohol content to be .22 percent. The legal limit is .08 percent. The operator was ticketed. His name wasn't released.
