Olympian helps give back

May 27, 2013
Adirondack Daily Enterprise
The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northeast New York received fundraising assistance at its March 2013 gala in Saratoga Springs from 2010 Olympic bronze medalist skier Andrew Weibrecht, center, of Lake Placid, and the Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa. Weibrecht, whose parents Ed and Lisa Weibrecht own Mirror Lake Inn, is flanked by Make-A-Wish chapter CEO William Trigg III, left, and Director of Philanthropy Mark Woroby, right, at the hotel. A record $221,000 was raised at the Saratoga event, including a winning bid of $4,700 for a three-night stay at the Lake Placid lodging property, with daily breakfast and a half-day of skiing at Whiteface Mountain with Andrew, whose medal came in the super-G alpine event. That bid, too, was a regional Make-A-Wish record for generating the highest ever for a live auction item. The winners will also receive new skis, boots and custom boot fitting from Sports Page Ski and Patio in Glens Falls. All proceeds from the gala are returned to the organization’s general fund. The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northeast New York fulfills 100 wishes yearly in a 15-county region.
