RAY BROOK - Playing in his final regular-season match, senior Blake Gregory led Saranac Lake's golfers to victory Thursday as the Red Storm capped off their third straight Champlain Valley Athletic Conference title with a 5 1/2 - 1/2 win over Saranac Central.
After clinching the regular season championship Wednesday, Saranac Lake finished at 9-1 with Thursday's triumph over the Chiefs at the Saranac Lake Golf Club in Ray Brook.
Playing at No. 3, Gregory fired a medalist round 1-over par 37 to beat Saranac's Dylan Plumadore. Gregory had one birdie, two bogeys and six pars during the round.
Dustin Fischer had the next-lowest round of the day while finishing even with the Chiefs' Nick Lees. Both golfers carded rounds of 38 in the second pairing.
Ethan Sawyer, Austin Ecret, Teddy Yanchitis also posted wins for the Red Storm, who have gone 29-1 over the past three regular seasons.
Ethan Sawyer edged Austin Ladieu 43-44 at No. 1, Ecret shot a 43 to top Max Stanley by five shots in the fourth match, Yanchitis turned in a 46 to beat Nick Daniels by 11 strokes in the fifth match, and Carley Sawyer had a 44 for a 16-shot win over Zach Daniels at No. 6.
The Red Storm will next look to defend their sectional title when the two-day Section VII Championship tournament kicks off Thursday at the Saranac Inn Golf Club.
